Rosenberg, TX – The recently completed trade between Milwaukee and Scott saw A. J. Pierzynski change teams. This was a triumph of immediate need over long-term loyalty as A. J. Pierzynski was the last link to the expansion 2001 Scott Anacondas. Long gone are David Ortiz, Roy Halladay, Jimmy Rollins, Michael Young, Juan Pierre, Mark Kotsay, Pat Burrell, and a whole bunch of guys you would have a hard time recalling. Charlie Hudson (grade 9) was my only non-D pitcher and the Anacondas went 32-130. We did, however, win one game by scoring 10 runs in the bottom of the 9th to erase a 9-run deficit; I’m pretty sure that is never going to happen again. Anyway, A. J. Pierzynski was my 3rd round pick…a rookie catcher getting a cup of coffee with the San Francisco Giants. A. J. was never the best catcher around, but he put up consistently usable numbers every year as a member of the Scott 9. We’ll miss you Pierzynski!
